Myth #1: There Is A Major Difference Between Staffing Agencies And Recruitment Agencies
While it’s true that some people will use ''recruitment agencies'' to refer to one type of agency (and ''staffing agencies'' to refer to another), there is not a major difference between the two. Some will call them temp agencies, but a temp agency primarily deals with temporary employment. Recruitment agencies can provide that service, but they are concerned with fostering longer term relationships between employees and employers. They recruit talented and qualified candidates their employer clients will love and hopefully hire on for a more permanent role.
Myth #2: Recruitment Agencies Are Only Useful For Those New To The Workforce
Recruitment agencies are absolutely helpful to those who are entering the workforce for the first time. That is true. However, there are agencies that specialize in experienced workers who are looking to make a change. Recruitment agencies will take on all candidates, either starting or even finishing their career and match them with people who are hiring. Some employers work with specific agencies because they work with veteran workers. This is especially the case when the role being filled is a management or an executive spot. Sometimes a business will need someone in a leadership role with lots of skills quickly and using a recruitment agency can fill that need.
Myth #3: They Take A Cut Of Your Pay
This is one of the biggest misconceptions of them all regarding recruitment agencies. The agency has to make money somehow, so it makes sense that they take some of your pay, right? Wrong. Even though the employee enjoys the benefit of a paying job, they are not the ones who pay for the agency’s services. That would be the employer, who pays a fee for the help in finding qualified candidates. If you are hired through an agency, you can rest assured you will be paid your worth.
Myth #4: You Have No Choice Of Employer Or Position
You may think that if you sign on with a recruitment agency, you will no longer have the freedom to make choices regarding where you want to work and in what type of position. This is completely false. An agency will work with you to find a spot that is right for you. This means they can help you reach your goals, not dictate what your goals should be. They will make connections for you, they will process paperwork and they will find the best opportunities to suit your needs. They will keep in contact with you at all times so you always know what’s happening. They will not do anything that is not within the standards you have set with them and you can always say no or change those standards whenever you wish.
Myth #5: Using A Recruitment Agency Looks Bad On Your Resume
In the past it may have looked bad to have worked with several employers over a shorter period of time. That has changed in recent years with the changes we’ve seen in the economy. A varied work history now can show that someone has a wide range of talents and has learned from many sources. Employers may look at this as a bonus rather than a drawback. They we will see an experienced worker who is not afraid to try and learn new things.
